self discipline quotes

Discipline is the assertion of willpower over more base desires, and is usually understood to be synonymous with self control. Self-discipline is to some extent a substitute for motivation, when one uses reason to determine the best course of action that opposes one’s desires. Virtuous behavior is when one’s motivations are aligned with one’s reasoned aims: to do what one knows is best and to do it gladly. Content behavior, on the other hand, is when one does what one knows is best, but must do it by opposing one’s motivations. Moving from content to virtuous behavior requires training and some self-discipline.

In every part of life discipline is necessary. Our personal and social life requires so much discipline. If the discipline is not followed, then life will become disorderly. When we look up the history and mythology, then we find several examples where the discipline has achieved significant successes and accomplishments. These achievements became a great source of motivation for us.

Today, the scramble of life has increased most of us want to make more and more profit in very less time. We do not want to follow the path of discipline. But it is a harsh reality that success cannot be achieved without discipline. And Discipline can only be developed by following some rules for a long period of time.

How to develop Self Discipline

Below is a four step process which can help you develop Self Discipline.

Analyze our daily activities and make a list of things you think are blocking your path towards success.

Commit to your self not to repeat those thing which you think are not helpful to you. And replace those things or habits with positive things and habits, which will accelerate your growth.

After performing step 1 and 2 you will know your strength and weakness. Make a plan which you think will work for you. While making your action plan think about every possible way to improve it.

Now after knowing want to do and how to do, start practicing your new daily routine enthusiastically.

While trying to change your lifestyle you will face failure and discouragement, do not loose faith. Stay firm like a mountain, keep on following your plan until you reach your goal.

If the citizens of a country are disciplined then that country will continue on the path of sustained progress and will move forward in all areas. The lesson of discipline will always help us to move forward in our life and face the challenges of life.

  1. I have no self discipline. The extent to which…is quite sad… I’d “like” to be more self disciplined, but apparently not enough to get it done… Thanks for this post 🙂 I’ll have to read it again though!

  2. Wonderful post. Have you read “The Disciplined Life” by Richard Taylor? I recommend. It goes further into what you’ve already listed. Great read. Thanks 🙂

  3. I agree with you 100%. It’s related to the ability to delay gratification which they’ve studied in children. The kids who can hold back from grabbing a cake because they’ve been told they’ll get two cakes if they wait, turn out to achieve more in later life. Makes sense to me.

  4. I always appreciate a simplistic approach to explaining a difficult concept for people to understand. Thank you for doing such a wonderful job explaining what it feels took me an eternity to understand. I wish I had a month and three days of eternity to figure out what just happened. Too bad reality is as reality dictates. Silly dictators, never know when it is time to stop the act and queue the magic.

  5. Great post.I’ve found that the important element in maintaining discipline to reach a goal is to be clear about the purpose for your goal. The goal should be aligned to the overarching purpose of your life.

  6. Thank you for visiting my post.
Undeniably the most important thing is keeping the self discipline in us it self.
And maintaining it so it can be one with our body and mind…and being able to reject external interferences easily.

  7. What an amazing inspiring post! Thank you. I love the “success cannot be achieved without discipline” simple…yet such a great reminder. And to ‘stay firm like a mountain’. I have been reading a lot of James Allen and Napoleon Hill and this ties right into their works. Thanks again for sharing!

  8. Thank you for your appreciation on my frist real post. I do like your blog and the post about self-discipline is amazing!

  9. Something I am always working on. I think it is kind of like exercising a muscle. It gets easier the more you do it… become stronger every time you use that discipline and it make it easier to use next time. 🙂

  10. Friend, thank you for stopping by The Shoulder Life, and thank you for this post. Discipline is the impetus of success, and there is no endurance without it. We must endure, and discipline plays a vital and indispensable role in that goal. I hope you will stop by again soon, and I’m sure we’ll bump into each other around the blogosphere.

    Kind regards,

  11. This is so true, especially for those of us who have a lot of responsibilities and interests. It’s easy to get sidetracked by life and all its distractions and obligations.

It sometimes happens that when we are striving towards a goal, all of a sudden a lot of things will happen that throw obstacles up in our way. That’s when it’s most important to stick to our resolve and self-discipline to power through those times. It’s a challenge to balance all of the areas of our life, but it can be done with our determination and God’s help and guidance.

  12. Very inspiring post 🙂 I agree that self-discipline is what transforms your goals into reality – but it’s also what tests how committed you are to making it happen!

More times than not it takes multiple rounds of intentional efforts of self-discipline to accomplish something you want. Perhaps determination must come hand in hand with self-discipline for discipline to be effective?

  13. Well said. The problem, of course, is that we have to be disciplined to become disciplined. Like so many things in life, the will to take the first step is where so many of us fail.

    Thank you.

  14. I completely agree with you. As an author and a life coach I can say this is all true. In my life I have discovered that self discipline can be fun!. If you need to have self control find some way of doing it in a way you might like. I lost weight rapidly over a few months on a diet. I love the food and I have to eat a little but frequently. I wanted to lose weight in a way I liked, great!!

  15. For me, self discipline can be a struggle at times. Reading your article was inspiring and motivating – help to put me back on track. Enjoyed the article – thank you for the post!

  16. I really like it, because from my point of view, discipline is one of the first steps you need to take towards acieving your goal. If you don’t have any discipline, you’re not really gonna see results & commit to your work.
